wHAT IS IT CALLED?
We are the DIY STREET FAIR
The Funky Ferndale Art Fair is not our event. It’s a wonderful event run by different producers and has more of a fine art flair (artist booths only—no food trucks or bands). It’s on West 9 Mile across Woodward. We are on East 9 Mile (and parking lots) on the East side of Woodward. These two events are on the same weekend. Please promote where you are with the correct name.
what are the hours?
FRIDAY: 6pm - 11pm (Here we go!)
SAT: 11am - 11pm
SUN: 11am - 9pm (Booo it’s over!)
do i need to stay open all hours of the event?
YES! It is mandatory that you stay open all hours of the event. This is a long event. Consider this before you apply.
when is artist load in??
Artist load in is early Friday, the morning of the event and goes until 4pm. All gates have a hard close after 4 and all goods must be walked in. You will be emailed detailed instructions on load in times and a map. Artists will be able to drive right up to their tent to unload.
IS IT COOL TO LEAVE MY CAR BY MY TENT WHILE I GET IT SET UP?
NO! Help make load in less stressful for all. We ask and expect that you unload your vehicle as quickly as possible, park off site and THEN start setting up. This is crucial to a smooth load in and this applies to you. Yes YOU! Especially YOU!
WILL THERE BE TABLES AND CHAIRS? i forgot my tent. do you have an extra?
Tables and chairs are not available to rent and there is no magical tent supply closet. Be prepared. This is an outdoor event and every kind of weather has happened over the years. Bring a 10x10 tent with 4 sides and a minimum of 40-pound weights per pole. We check for weights!
WHAT ELSE SHOULD I BRING?
This event is still open after sundown. Bring LED lights. Bring lamps with LED bulbs. Light your tent and products creatively.
Bring extension cords and power strips. Your outlet may be behind your neighbor’s tent.
You need FOUR tent sides to close up completely on Friday and Saturday night.
Have you practiced setting up your tent? Load in is not the time to figure it out.
Weights! We will not allow you to vend if you have not brought the proper weights. We check. You need a MINIMUM of 40 pound weights PER TENT POLE—so that’s 4.
UPGRADES?
All artists have the OPTION to choose your booth location for an additional fee. You will be notified when these options are available.
IS THERE WI-FI AT DIY?
No there isn’t. There were a few years where we provided it in the past, but the dependability was not at a level we felt comfortable with.
WHERE ARE THE RESTROOMS?
Indoor bathrooms are available at Carajillo restaurant near the stage and is open to the public throughout the weekend. The Loving Touch has indoor bathrooms available as well. Outdoor portable restrooms are on site.
WHERE CAN WE PARK?
Parking is always a challenge this weekend. Neighborhood parking is available (follow posted signs), city lots, The Dot structure and Credit Union One often has charity parking available.
IS THERE FIRST AID ON SITE?
Ferndale Police and Fire have tents on site and can assist in small issues or any emergency. Their tents are located in the library parking lot.
HOW MUCH ELECTRICITY WILL MY BOOTH HAVE?
All booths come with one outlet of minimal power—enough to confidently plug in many strands of LED lights, small electronics, etc. WARNING! If too much power is used, it could knock out the power to the entire row of booths. Please read the power details HERE.
CAN I BRING MY OWN FOOD?
Absolutely. We also encourage you to try our amazing food vendors on site. Bring snacks, bring water and take care of yourself.
CAN I BRING MY OWN BOOZE? CAN I SMOKE OR VAPE IN MY TENT?
Absolutely not. No outside alcohol is allowed. This will be strictly enforced and violations will result in immediate forfeiture of your space. No smoking or vaping is allowed inside your tent. Please go to an open area at a minimum of 10 feet away from any tents.
CAN I HAVE SOMEONE ELSE WATCH MY BOOTH FOR A WHILE?
Yes, but we encourage you to be at your booth whenever possible.
WILL THERE BE SECURITY?
Although the DIY Street Fair is not responsible for your personal property, we care about your safety and security. The Ferndale Police are on site and are present at all hours of the event. Additionally, we employ overnight security. Use common sense and don’t leave extreme valuables, like cash or small electronics in your booth overnight.
WHEN CAN I LOAD OUT?
The fair ends at 9pm on Sunday and we hope that you would stay open until then. Many people browse the first 2 days and do their spending on the last day. Keep in mind that no cars are allowed to come through the gates until approx 9:15-9:30pm. The time is dictated by the police. We have to wait until the majority of fairgoers are offsite until cars will be let through for safety. Hopefully, there is a lot less to load out because you’ve had amazing sales! There is no way to stagger cars for load out. Your patience is appreciated.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF I'M ACCEPTED?
You will be notified by email whether you have been accepted, denied or wait listed. Due to the high volume of applications, we cannot provide individual feedback to applicants who have not been accepted as vendors.
DO I HAVE To COLLECT SALES TAX?
You are responsible for collecting, reporting and payment of any and all applicable taxes. Michigan sales tax is 6%.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER CONDITIONS AS PART OF MY ACCEPTANCE?
The DIY Street Fair goes to painstaking lengths to ensure the best environment for our artist vendors. We often hear that this is their favorite event. To make this a smooth event, there are Terms & Conditions that the artist vendors agree to upon acceptance. Review them HERE
